Treatment - Hip Pain

The hip is a complicated ball and socket joint.

There can be numerous causes of hip pain, and diagnosis and treatment is according to each condition.

Arthritis is among the most frequent causes of hip pain, and there are many treatments available.

MyPhysio are experts in diagnosing arthritis and treating it in its early and later stages with exercises, stretches and acupuncture.

Trochanteric bursitis is an extremely common problem that causes inflammation of the bursa (shock absorbing pad between muscle and bone) over the outside of the hip joint. Patients will often point to the side of the hip as the source of pain, with severe pain when lying on the affected side.

MyPhysio seeks to treat the pain through acupuncture, injection from your GP and re-education of your hip muscles to restore range, strength and control. Tendonitis can occur in any of the tendons (end of the muscles) that surround the hip joint.

The most frequently encountered tendonitis around the hip is iliotibial band (IT band) tendonitis. This frequently affects runners, and can be easily treated by MyPhysio using stretches, muscle control exercises and running biomechanics analysis on the treadmill. Many back and spine problems can also cause symptoms around the buttocks and hip.

The most common problems that refer pain to the hip region are disc based problems and sciatica/nerve problems. MyPhysio are experts in diagnosing and treating the exact cause of your problem, and after a full consultation will tell you about your needs.

Femoro-Acetabular Impingement syndrome of the hip is a condition that is becoming more recognized recently, with advances in X-rays and MRI scans. Sometimes the natural shape of the ball and socket joint can cause pinching or catching in the groin, or pain when sitting for a long period of time.

Occasionally the labrum/capsule ( bag like structure surround the hip joint) surrounding the joint becomes torn causing locking of the hip in certain positions.

MyPhysio have years of experience and excellent links with consultants to arrange imaging of your hip, and stretching and strengthening work on your muscles to relieve the pressure on your joint.
